In a slump...

First off, excuse any weird spelling or grammatical mistakes. My tablet isn't as easy to type on as my laptop, and since I'm ranting, it's not like I'm really paying attention either. Mostly I'm just going to casually word vomit and say fuck it to the english language. The english language has stupid rules anyway.

Have you ever had an idea? One that you adored and loved and wanted to bring to life? And then, when you try to get a friend's opinion on a specific area, they just kinda tear apart the whole thing and tell you that it won't work? Of then, you're stuck.... Do you take this outside opinion of someone you trust because you may have gotten carried away in your own world... or do you soldier on and do it anyway?

So, around the site I've mentioned a few times to having been working on fleshing out my own pet site concept. It's been a couple years now of just me, toiling away with ideas and trying to get a good foundation written out to start building off of. I was keeping it secret, because I had an interesting way that I wanted to introduce it when time came, but I'm no longer sure if I can keep it a secret. I had a friend of mine look into my concept because I'm rather shit when it comes to actual mechanics, especially battle mechanics, but while I was trying to explain the site to her, she just kept saying that it wouldn't work. The themes I wanted for specific reasons, wouldn't work in a game. How I wanted to word things would just confuse people. She pretty much wanted me to scrap my entire backstory and one of my later plots because the main theme of the game (new tech vs. Old magic) wasn't something that would work because it was just too much to give a user, and in the end the game seemed more like an rpg for console than a petsite.

I don't /want/ to do a run of the mill petsite. I want to do a heavily story driven pet site with rpg aspects. I don't want the 'pets' to just be pretty pictures while games are played in the gamesroom, I want them to matter to the user because they are the key to playing the game. I don't want battling to be something where you just get the best weapon and grind in a training center, I want everyone to strategize and plan out their parties. ...but what if it doesn't work? Can a petsite be a petsite when it's gameplay influenced so heavily by rpg's? It has the pets, it requires you to maintain and care for them... there would be forums and profiles and games, I just want to give my site more gameplay. I don't want it to be a place for people to just go and casually chat and maybe play some random games that really have nothing to do with the site's theme. Those are all well and good, and of course you can if you want to, but I want to make a pet site that you can actually play as a game itself.

But now I'm stuck. I don't know whether to go back or forwards or just scrap it entirely while I still have a chance. I want to talk it out with people, but my mind is such a confusing web of half thought out mess that it's difficult for me to put what I'm picturing into words. I'd love someone to help me solidify ideas, but how can they do that if they don't understand in the first place? I'm better at verbally explaining, but over the internet, not a lot of people are okay with skype calls... and I suppose I would rather be told my idea is junk in typed out letters than actually being told. I don't know what to do. :c
